Checkpoints before the start of the harvest
A short inspection of the drive, intake, tyres and hydraulics.
The sweetcorn and green bean harvest lasts a few months. If the machine is out of action for a day, the crop in the field simply keeps growing. That is why we do not look at a long checklist, but at what we most often get back broken in the workshop.
- A clogged air filter. Dust and plant residue from last season are still in it. The engine loses power, and you only notice in the field.
- Sprockets with hooked teeth. A worn sprocket wears out a new chain within a few days. Replace them together.
- Bearings with just a little too much play. Turn the shafts by hand. If you hear or feel something, replace the bearing now and not in the middle of a field.
- Hydraulic hoses at pivot points. That is where they chafe. If you see a hose where the rubber has worn off, even if it is still dry now: it can burst on the first warm day.
